I went to the pet store today, and met a cute kitty named BILLY! He was a little shy at first, but warmed up and really got into me petting and loving him (until he was demanding all my attention). What a lover boy! I've never seen a kitty with his markings before, he looked kinda of like a tuxedo kitty, but with different colors. He's got a cream color where tuxedo kitties usually have white, and the part that's usually black was gray with little stripes. He had a long pointy face that was GORGEOUS, and big green eyes. And his fur was soft and uber-silky. He did have some goo in his eyes, and a bit of a runny nose. It breaks my heart that so many of those rescue kitties seem to have colds, and it makes me a little nervous because Kami Kaji was like that when I got him, too (and now look what happened). I'm a little gun shy of kittens that seem to have little heatlh problems, cus I'm afraid it's going to turn into something major. But at the same time, those rescue kitties need extra love and attention, and would surely thrive once they got to their permanent loving homes, right? I can't let fear dictate my actions.

I don't know if I mentioned it anywhere, but when I took Kami Kaji to be euthanized, the lady from the shelter where I got him came to the vet office with me, and was there with me through the whole ordeal. We had become friends in the few months since I brought Kami Kaji home. She was the one who helped me when Kami Kaji has his eye thing going, and she was the one supplying me with medicine and letting me go to the vet on the rescue shelter's dime to help clear up his health issues. Was wonderful and supportive the whole way through. Well, she mentioned to me that the people at the rescue agency decided that whenever I was ready for a new kitten, they would get me one and waive the $150 adoption fee. I was so touched when she told me that!

But the reality of the situation is that I'm about to move into a new home, and that's going to be a HUGE change for me and the boys I already have. Right now doesn't seem like the most prudent of times to get a new kitty. BUT, and that's a big BUTT, my horoscope for the month of March (from my favorite online astrology website, astrologyzone.com) said that the end of March would be a perfect time to bring a new pet home, due to the eclipse that will be happening (and falls in my sixth house):

"The last indication of this eclipse may surprise you. It would be an ideal time to get a new pet. If you recently lost your dog to your ex in a divorce, or gave your little cat to your mother because you moved and couldn't bring your pet along, it may be time to go to the animal shelter to see if one little creature calls out to you. The sixth house rules small domestic animals, and since this is such a positive new moon, if you've been longing for a pet, this would be the ideal time to look."

Maybe I *am* supposed to get a new kitty???????? I love my Bukky and Kumo, don't get me wrong. But there was something magical about there being 4 of us together in a little human/animal family unit. I've already looked at quite a few kittens since Kami's passing (I just haven't been able to help myself), but I didn't bond with any of them (and two of them were siamese). This one is super lovey dovey, just like Kami Kaji was. I guess that's what I'm really looking for -- a super loving cat (no matter what it looks like -- I thought I wanted only a Siamese, but now I think personality is more important than just looks).

Am I crazy? Is this the absolute wrong time to be thinking about bringing another kitty home? I don't want a repeat of what happened with Kami Kaji -- I only want a super healthy baby ready to come live with me for the next 20+ years.

Sigh! Billy sure is cute. :)

How many people have buried cats and then found the allegedly dead animal at a later time, alive and wanting to be pet?

Mt Father in law did that, earlier in the year. My mother did that witha completely different kitty, a couple decades ago.

Is there something spooky going on, or do the adults in my life suffer from greater dementia then originally suspected?

CAKE INGREDIENTS:
1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
1 package white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"
1 NEW cat-litter box
1 NEW cat-litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper

1) Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.

2) When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

3) Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape
the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.

4) Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy!

Going to the vet

I'm taking Kami Kaji to the vet this morning in Sunland (for those of you who know the area). It's about 15-20 miles away from me, in the San Fernando Valley. He's perfectly fine, but his eye issue still has not cleared up. The coolest thing is that the shelter is sending me to their vet (that's why I'm going so far away), and they are going to pick up the tab. I am so grateful!

On a happier not, Jordan came over to meet the midget last night, and it was love at first sight for those two! :D They snuggled and cuddled for a long time, and we even got some cute pics. Post them, Jordan!

I'll report back later on what they say about Kami! Wish us luck!

I LOVE MY KITTIES!

I love them more and more every day. All three of them have wonderful charms. Kumo is interactive and communicative, and the best snuggler ever. I love waking up with him against my butt. I love how when he looks at me he half closes his eyes and looks so lovingly at me. Bukky is charming and inquisitive. He has the attitude and jaunt of a tiger and acts like he owns the house. I love how he lets me hold him like a baby in my arms, and he reaches up his paw to touch my lips. Kami Kaji is the friendliest kitten ever. He immediately plops into the lap of all my friends who come to visit, and settles in for a snooze. He is so trusting and gentle and adoring. I love his face with its little expressions, and even his puffy eyes are adorable. He's also quite the athlete, and very coordinated. He has the confidence and attitude of a baby lion.

Did you see the beautiful new photos of Bukky and Kumo in my profile? I used the macro lense on Bukky. Now you guys get to see the face I kiss every day.

I love my kitties.

I went to my local petstore at lunch today to get food for Bukky and Kumo. They have a big walk-in cage there sponsored by a local pet rescue organization, that always has 2-3-4 kitties in it. I immediately was attracted to a little siamese mix named Tanner (I have a soft spot for siamese kitties cus I had one as a child). He's only 8 weeks old. His plaque said he was bottle fed. I spent about 10 minutes with him in the cage, and he was absolutely adorable. He purred the second I picked him up, and was a real lover boy (just like Bukky is). He let me flip him on his back and hold him like a baby, and when I finally put him down he jumped back up on me.

I am going back after work to see him again. I don't want to be impulsive, but I am in love with this little kitten:

That's how I help people remember to pronounce my name in real life. It doesn't work when I tell that to Brits, however, cus they pronouce it Keen-ya.

When I introduce myself to people at parties, I say "Hi, I'm Zenia from Kenya!" and they always say "Are you really from Kenya?" to which I reply "No, I'm from Hollywood, but that doesn't rhyme with Zenia."

My best friend in college was this teeny weeny little 90 lbs. half Filipina/half Pakistani girl named Yasmin. She and I were exact opposites physically, as I am tall for a woman and quite chunkalicious. We were inseparable, and told everyone we were twins. Sometimes she used to sit on my lap, and we would pretend she was a dummy and I was the ventriloquist. We were quite a comedic duo.

One of the coolest things about Yasmin was that she could burp louder than ANYONE I ever met with the exception of my dad. I could not believe that such a teeny person could bellow in belch-speak like she did.

I asked her once to teach me everything she knew about burping, and she did. We racked our brains as to how we could figure out how to make the biggest burps possible, and this is what we came up with:

1. Quickly drink down one WHOLE can of warm Dr. Pepper (or other carbonated beverage of choice -- but that was our favorite), and by quickly I mean SHOTGUN;

2. Jump up and down for a good 10-20 seconds until you could really feel the pressure of gas in your stomach. What you're doing there is releasing the gas from the liquid and letting it collect.

3. Hold it in until it feels like you cannot hold it in anymore, and then let loose.

We were able to produce some HUGE burps that way. Dr. Pepper can also be substituted by warm Dr. Joe's (Trader Joe's alternative to Dr. Pepper). For whatever reason, Dr. Joe's was an especially bubbly treat.

I suggest you all try this at home, and post your results here.

pasta sauce

i grew up with a new york italian mom and an irish dad. when we had "spaghetti" it was a big all day deal. the sauce had everything from sausage to pork chops in it. however, we always called it spaghetti, even if the noodles were not spaghetti.
so i love making homemade sauce. learned it from my mom. the boy once said "i have decided i dont like spaghetti." this was around the 15th time i made it. i got all offended. then after a discussion, i realized he meant spaghetti noodles, not the sauce.

what do you all call the damn shit?
for instance, tonight i am making a homemade tomato/sausage sauce over linguini. i still call it spaghetti....
